Jazz Mafia Tuesday at Bruno's December 2004 Retrospective

One Tuesday night in the Spring of 2004 I wandered into Bruno's when the Shotgun Wedding Quintet was rocking the house. Until the new owners closed the place for remodelling in late 2005, I recorded almost every Tuesday's performance. The old Bruno's, with its unusual stage orientation and good acoustics, turned out to be a very satisfying venue for making live stereo recordings, and I had the good fortune to be there for many slamming dates. Unfortunately, both 12 Galaxies and the new Bruno's turned out to be far less recording friendly, and as I was getting busy with other stuff, my Bruno's recording activities trailed off. The recent Bruno's management decision to terminate Jazz Mafia Tuesdays will, I hope, turn out to be a blessing in disguise when Jazz Mafia Tuesdays reemerges at a better venue. Until then, every Tuesday, I will be reaching into the vault and pulling out some vintage Realistic Orchestra, Realistic, Shotgun Wedding Quintet, Shotgun Symphony, and Low End Theory recordings to help you through. I'm also looking for photos to accompany the MP3s, so if you've got some from the 2004-2005 timeframe, please let me know.

To kick things off during the month of December 2008, I'm going to reach back in time to the corresponding Tuesday, and post the recording of that show. First Tuesday is Realistic Orchestra so here we go ...

Realistic Orchestra Live @ Bruno's - Tuesday, December 7, 2004

Especially notable about this date is Mitch Marcus on keys, the first performance of Solidude, a spacey free improv/soundcheck, and some fever-induced drumming by Eric.

Shotgun Wedding Quintet @ Bruno's - Tuesday, December 14, 2004

Its fun going back this far and getting a sense of how far the band has come, and how some of the band's 'standards' have evolved over the years. This date has a guest appearance by Jason Sherbundy on keys. I always enjoyed Dublin's freestyle on topics from the crowd. This time he holds forth on wide ranging subjects including DJ Aspect, respect, freelance mudwrestling, and heavy metal.
